When Heidi graduated from the University of Calgary Faculty of Law in 2009, she instinctively knew she wanted to be a family lawyer. Between the constant client contact and the daily necessity to be a creative and efficient problem solver, she knew it was a practice area she would both thrive and excel in.
Heidi cut her teeth as an articling student at one of Calgary’s pre-eminent family law boutique firms and accepted an associate position there after she was called to the Alberta Bar in 2010. In 2011, Heidi was tempted away from her first firm by another prestigious family law boutique firm in the city and it was in the next eight years that Heidi really earned her reputation as a “go getter” lawyer to watch.
Though Heidi especially loves tackling intricate property files, Prenuptial and Cohabitation Agreements, and all manner of parenting issues, she is seasoned in every aspect of family law and doesn’t shy away from even the most challenging cases.
Heidi’s clients have described her as the type of lawyer who never fails to “see the forest for the trees” and is notably good at “looking around corners”. It is this combination of qualities that makes her particularly adept at resolving even the most high-conflict cases in an efficient and amicable way. Heidi believes that the best outcomes are achieved by clients being engaged and involved in the settlement process and therefore will always promote mediation or arbitration as a first course of action. Of course, there will always be situations where a collaborative resolution is unrealistic, and in those cases, Heidi is equally prepared to litigate.
To keep current on the ever-evolving law, Heidi maintains an active membership in the CBA Family Law Group and attends and presents at seminars and courses with the Legal Education Society of Alberta. She’s also known to be seen mingling with her peers over a glass of wine at various family law bar social events when her schedule permits.
Outside of the office, if you don’t find Heidi chasing after one of her three young kids or her wild Hungarian Vizsla, you’ll probably find her collapsed in a heap of sweaty Zen at the end of a yoga or barre class.
