Mark Lancaster

With 20 years experience in the Calgary legal community, Mark brings with him a wealth of knowledge in family law principles and practices. He is known as a skilled litigator and mediator with an inquisitive mind, quick wit and a dedication to providing sound, practical advice tailored to his client’s needs.

Mark began working in the legal profession in 1999, providing client support services to litigants in a major tort action. He was called to the Alberta Bar in 2003 after earning an undergraduate degree with distinction in Political Science and a subsequent LL.B from the University of Calgary.

Following his call to the bar, Mark practiced in a mixed family and criminal law practice and then transitioned to a mid-size boutique firm specializing exclusively in family law. In 2007, he accepted a position as in-house counsel for a professional regulatory body, practicing in the area of administrative law and litigation. There, he conducted professional prosecutions, provided legal advice to decision makers and assisted in decision drafting. In 2011, Mark returned exclusively to the practice of family law and is pleased to be a part of team of professionals at Moe Hannah LLP.

Over the years, Mark has expertly handled matters before regulatory bodies and tribunals, the Provincial Court, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta and the Alberta Court of Appeal.

With a client focused approach, Mark is an advocate of alternative resolution services and has significant experience in contract negotiation, pre-nuptial and marriage agreements, matrimonial property and separation agreements, mediation, DRO’s, and judicial dispute resolution. In addition, Mark is an experienced litigator having conducted countless high conflict matters at trial and arbitration.

Mark has a reputation as a ‘big picture’ thinker who is quickly able to grasp all aspects of complex situations and distill them down to understandable bite sized chunks.  He is dedicated to unraveling the legal jargon and presenting all of the options and possible outcomes to clients in a clear and concise manner.

Outside the office Mark is a dedicated family man who enjoys spending as much time as possible with his wife, 2 children and menagerie of pets.  Favourite activities include travel, skiing, disc golf, hiking and family game or movie nights.
